Dr. Timothy W. Gordon is currently the Vice President for Student Affairs at Buffalo State College, the urban engaged campus in the State University of New York (SUNY) system. In his role at SUNY Buffalo State he is responsible for providing leadership for the division of student affairs, which includes 12 other units and over 130 employees. His leadership of the division has continued to focus on enhancing opportunities for student success and integrating out of classroom learning with the work of faculty in the classroom. Additionally, he is known as a champion for diversity and inclusion efforts and support for first-generation students. He also serves as campus media spokesperson and provides leadership for supporting the college’s retention efforts as well as working with the Elmwood Village and other campus neighborhoods. Prior to this role he served as Dean of Students, Deputy Title IX Coordinator, and part time faculty in the School of Education at The University of Wisconsin Milwaukee. Dr. Gordon has also held leadership positions at Northwestern University School of Continuing Studies, Columbia College Chicago, Illinois State University and Michigan State University. In each leadership role he has occupied he has worked with the campus, alumni, and donors to raise funds that have support student scholarships and programs and services that support student success including addressing issues of food insecurity. He completed his PhD in Educational Administration and Foundations with an emphasis in Higher Education at Illinois State University in May 2005. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Interdisciplinary Social Science and his Master’s in Higher Adult and Lifelong Education at Michigan State University. Dr. Gordon has written and contributed to several articles and short papers and most recently coauthored a manuscript, The Role of the Student Affairs Educator in Accreditation, which was published by the American College Personnel Association and Stylus Publications. He has also served as an engaged educator teaching graduate, undergraduate, and certificate students in courses focused on Leadership and Organizational Behavior, Higher Education (Strategic Planning and Finance), and Nonprofit Leadership and Management. In addition, Tim’s active work in higher education has been recognized in the following ways: honorary membership in the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society at UWM, the Diamond Honoree Award from the ACPA Educational Foundation; ACPA Commission for Commuter and Adult Students; and the Dennis Trueblood Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Student Affairs profession in the State of Illinois. On the civic front he has served as Mentor and Volunteer for adoption education as well as a mentor and volunteer for LGBTQ youth programs. Dr. Gordon lives with his husband, Bradly, three children, June, Jack and Charlie, and their dog Mabel outside of Buffalo, NY.
